robyn malcolm rakeFollowing her masterclasses with actors in Wellington and Auckland, Equity is delighted to host "Rake" director Jessica Hobbs in conversation with Robyn Malcolm. Robyn worked with Jessica on the latest series of "Rake" so this is a great opportunity to get an insight into Jessica’s  work in television.  There will be questions with drinks to follow.

All screen industry practitioners - actors, writers, directors, producers and technicians - are welcome to attend on Monday March 18 from 6.30pm to 8pm. Venue: Suite 108, Ironbank, 150 Karangahape Road.

One Man Guy - Equity actor and producer

onemanguyEquity member Jon Pheloung stars in One Man Guy: Dirty American Decade, produced by Equity member Torum Heng of Shirley Gentlemen Productions. 

A musical in one act featuring one performer and one guitar. The day he heard ‘Ring Of Fire’, a Christchurch boy vowed he would one day write and sing songs for a living. And marry one of Johnny Cash’s daughters.

NINE – Drama. Survive! Two Women locked in a cell fight each other with wit and words to stay alive.
FRIEND OF THE DECEASED – Black Comedy. Her cheating husband is dead, when a strange young woman arrives his widow plays a twisted  game to exact her revenge.  
THE LAST NICKEL – Comic Drama. Two sisters, a bed, a trombone, a host of bizarre puppets and “To Sir With Love” make a night they will never forget.

Masterclass with Rake director Jessica Hobbs

Spend a day working with Jessica Hobbs, the celebrated director of many award winning television programs. Jessica will work on different texts and all actors will have an opportunity to workshop scenes and explore different aspects of the text.   Successful applicants will be sent scenes to learn prior to the masterclass.

This masterclasses are free-of-charge for financial members of NZ Equity. To be held in Wellington on 15 March and Auckland on 19 March. The Equity Foundation thanks the NZ Film Commission for their support of this event.

Jessica worked on Love My Way in 2004, then popular TV series Spirited and Tangle for Southern Star, followed by Rake and My Place for ABC. Jessica has won Australian Film Institute Awards for Answered by Fire (2006) and for Love My Way (2005).
