Auckland Fringe: Mrs van Gogh

mrs van gogh

Galatea Theatre presents Mrs Van Gogh. Vincent's sister-in-law Johanna saved the paintings from being burned after Vincent and Theo died within six months of each other - leaving Johanna alone with a new baby, and hundreds of paintings no one will buy or exhibit. By day she runs a boarding house and saves money to crate Vincent's paintings to galleries, by night she translates the 800 letters between the brothers that are now acknowledged as some of the greatest letters in Western literature.
